C-N Eighth After First Day at Rendleman Invitational

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men's golf team finished with a first round score of 317, just 12 strokes off the lead at the 23rd annual Richard Rendleman Invitational at the Salisbury Country Club in wintry conditions on Monday.

The Eagles are in eighth place out of 18 teams at the event, 12 strokes behind tournament leading Limestone, as the Cobras fired a 305 in the first round.

Carson-Newman was led by senior Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada), who shot a 5-over-par 76, and is tied for fifth place with 11 other players.

Kim-Moss is only five strokes behind the individual leader Alex Weare of Queens who shot an even-par 71.

Freshman Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) is tied for 27th place in the tournament with his 8-over-par 76 on Monday.

Senior Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) is tied for 34th place, just one stroke back of Reese with a 9-over-par 80 during the first round.

Sophomore Corey Bray (Caryville, Tenn.) is tied for 54th place after his 11-over-par 82 on Monday.

Sophomore Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario) is tied for 85th place with a 18-over-par 89 though the first round of the tournament.

While the Eagles are 12 strokes behind Limestone for first place, Carson-Newman is only six stokes behind fifth place Coker going into Tuesday's action.

Limestone leads the tournament with a first round 305, with Queens three strokes back at 308, UNC Pembroke and Lenoir-Rhyne tied for third place four strokes back at 309, and Coker in fifth place with a Monday score of 311.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, weather permitting.
