Reese Leads Eagles at Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – The Carson-Newman Eagles men's golf team shot a combined score of 26-over-par 594 (297-297) during the first two rounds of 2014 Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate Tournament at Fleming Island Golf Club in on Monday.

The Eagles are in ninth out of 16 teams after the first two rounds, but are only four strokes behind Newberry, who is in fifth place at 22-over-par and only nine strokes back of fourth place UNC Pembroke.

"We're a little better than that," said Carson-Newman head men's golf coach John Minor. "We're really not that many strokes out of fourth place, so we can make a lot of progress tomorrow. So we're looking forward to tomorrow, the weather has been great and we have some opportunities."

Carson-Newman was led by freshman Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) who shot back-to-back 1-over-par rounds of 72 to be only 2-over-par for the tournament and in 17th place.

"I'm really proud of Dalton Reese," said Minor. "He played quite well today and very consistent for a new guy on the team. Nice play by Dalton."

Senior Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) is tied for 24th place with his 6-over-par mark, but shot four strokes better in his second round with a 1-over-par 72.

Senior Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) shot consecutive rounds of 4-over-par 75 to be 8-over-par for the tournament and tied for 34th place.

Sophomore Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) is tied for 44th at 10-over-par for the tournament, and sophomore Nathan Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) is in 82nd place by shooting 23-over-par for the first two rounds.

Lincoln Memorial leads the tournament by being even-par through the first two rounds. Flagler is in second place at 8-over-par, with Tusculum in third at 11-over-par.

LMU's Tre' Mullins is in first place in the individual tournament, as he is 8-under-par through the first two rounds. Flagler's Spencer Schindler is two strokes back at 6-under-par, with his teammate Sebastian Barnova also in striking distance at 5-under-par.

The final round will be played Tuesday at Fleming Island Golf Club. Full results will be available on www.cneagles.com.
