Eagles fly south for Guy Harvey Invitational

Danielle Baiunco Interview

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – A golf course designed by one of golf's greatest is just one of the challenges that lie ahead for the Carson-Newman women's golf team.

Six top-25 teams highlight the 18-team field awaiting the Eagles at the Guy Harvey Invitational at the Arnold Palmer designed PGA National Resort in West Palm Beach, Fla. Tournament host Nova Southeastern Sharks is ranked-second, No. 5 Barry Buccaneers, the ninth-ranked Rollins Tars and No. 10 California Baptist Lancers are participants in the Guy Harvey that currently sit in the top-10.

Carson-Newman is making an appearance in the Guy Harvey for the second consecutive season as it finished 13th last season.

Highlighting the Eagles' squad in the Sunshine state will be Florida-native Danielle Baiunco. The senior from Melbourne, Fla. finished 43rd at the Guy Harvey in 2013.

"I'm so excited. This is our home turf for me and the course; I'm so familiar with it. I grew up playing it, so it's going to be such a great opportunity. I played really well at it last year, so I'm excited. And I think the team really fits well on it this year."

Freshman Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) joins Baiunco on the squad. England's last time on the course for Carson-Newman was historic as she picked up the first individual tournament win for an Eagle since 2009.

Baiunco is encouraged by her younger teammate's play so far this season and expects another good tournament from England.

"I'm so excited for her and I think she's a player. And it's so awesome to see her do so well this year as a freshman. It's great for her because she is confident going in to this and she's going to post a good score again, I'm sure."

Junior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.), junior Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.), junior Rebekah Pruett (Niceville, Fla.) and freshman Ashley Kay (Palos Heights, Ill.) join Baiunco and England in South Florida.

The six Carson-Newman golfers will be competing on the Palmer Course at the PGA National Resort. The Palmer Course stretches 6,163 yards.

The Eagles start the 36-hole Guy Harvey Invitational Monday morning with 18 holes and they conclude another 18 holes Tuesday.
