Baiunco tied for sixth, Eagles second after first round of Agnes McAmis Memoiral

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team are in second-place with a score of 318 after the first round of the Agnes McAmis Memorial at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.

Senior Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) led the Eagles with a first round score of 77 and she is tied for sixth.

"I feel we are definitely trending in a positive direction heading towards conference. A nice steady start for us in windy conditions with crazy pin positions which made the course very difficult," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "We kept our heads, had great attitude and finished well. I'm very pleased for senior Danielle's 77 which was team low score. I'm going to miss her leadership and presence on the team after our season's ends. We are playing for her this week."

Baiunco's 77 tied her round from last season's tournament as her low at the tournament and the round is also her ninth round in the 70s this season. Last year,  she recorded just five such rounds.

Freshman Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) and junior Rebekah Pruett (Niceville, Fla.) recorded rounds of eight-over 80 and are tied for 20th. England's round of 80 is her lowest first round score since the spring season lid-lifter at the Kiawah Intercollegiate and she bested her low since then by two strokes. Pruett's round is tied for second-lowest of her season and the best round she has played since the final round of the Guy Harvey Invitational.

Junior Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) shot a nine-over 81 and is tied for 30th. Hawkins shot her best round since the first round of the Armstong Pirate Women's Invitational played at the beginning of March.

Individual player Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) fired an 11-over 83 and is tied for 38th. Her score is her best round of golf since the Armstrong event played in Savannah, Ga.

Junior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot an 84 and is tied for 44th at 12-over on the scoreboard.

Wingate's Caitlin Starrs leads the tournament after she shot the event's lone even score of 72. King leads the team competition as the Tornado shot a 311 in the first round, while the Eagles are seven strokes off the lead. Lander is third with a score of 320.
