Eagles finish third at Agnes McAmis Memorial

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman women's team recorded the program's third third-place finish at the Agnes McAmis Memorial at Links Hill Country Club in six season following Tuesday's final round score of 319. The team's second-place finish is the second best placing of the season.

Senior Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) led the Eagles after finishing the tournament tied for 10th for her first top-10 finish of the season. 

In total, three Carson-Newman golfers improved their scores on the second day of the tournament. The team's third-place showing was the best finish of the eight South Atlantic Conference teams that competed in Greeneville.

"Really pleased with team's two day consistency. Everyone contributed and did well under very difficult conditions. Wind blew 20-30 miles per hour today," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Our goal was to win but placing best conference team is great momentum heading into conference championships. We are looking forward to good preparation next two weeks."

Juniors Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) and recorded her lowest round of golf since the first tournament of the spring season as she shot a final round 77 for a two-round total of 14-over 158. The junior improved her first round score by four strokes. She finished in a tie for 13th.

Junior Rebekah Pruett (Niceville, Fla.) recorded the second-best finish of her career as the Floridian finished in a tie for 15th at 15-over 159. Pruett bettered her first round score by a stroke as she shot a 79 on Tuesday.

Freshman Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) finished in a tie for 27th after a second round 83. She finished the tournament at 19-over. The Agnes McAmis Memorial is only the second tournament this season in which England has not shot a round of golf in the 70s.

Sophomore Jessica Hart (Roanoke, Va.) shot an 85 on Tuesday and finished tied for 43rd; junior Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished in 46th-place after shooting 25-over 169 and carded a score of 85 during the Tuesday round.

Lander won the team competition by six strokes over King (Tenn.) and the Bobcats'  Mariana Martins won the individual competition after a tiebreaker with Wingate's Caitlin Starrs.

The Eagles now have two weeks to prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Championships that Carson-Newman is hosting at Sevierville Golf Club on April 12th-14th.
