Eagles conclude first round of Guy Harvey Invitational

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Carson-Newman women's golf team concluded the first round of the Guy Harvey Invitational at the Palmer Course at PGA National Resort  with a 344 placing them in 16th..

Freshman Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) led the team with a nine-over 81, while Florida natives Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) and Rebekah Pruett (Niceville, Fla.) shot a 12-over 84 to lead the team.

"Tough day for everyone today in the first round. This was particularly disappointing because we have prepared well. Our practice round went great, everyone looked good and relaxed," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "I'm disappointed as this is our second trip down to PGA National so we knew what to expect. Shooting 344 as a team is unacceptable. Hopefully we can show some Eagle Pride tomorrow."

Junior Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) shot a first-round 89 to place her in a tie for 85th and Kelli Pemberton's (Knoxville, Tenn.) 18-over 90 puts her in a tie for 88th.  Freshman Ashley Kay (Palos Heights, Ill.) shot a 23-over 95 for a 95th-place showing.

No. 12 Lynn Fighting Knights leads the tournament after shooting a team 305, while three players are tied for the lead after shooting a first-round 73.

The final round starts Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
