Eagles nest into seventh-place at Fighting Camel Fall Classic

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Amongst a field full of eight Division-I teams at the Fighting Camel Fall Classic, the Carson-Newman women's golf teams sits in seventh-place after the first two rounds at Keith Hill Country Club.

Two Eagles, Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) and Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) are nestled into the tournament's top-20.

"Very pleased with our first two rounds today. Brand new course and event for us to have two players in the top-2 0 is nice," coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Team scores were consistent both rounds. Really like how Meredith is improving and Danielle. I'm confident Elizabeth will do better tomorrow and Rebekah. Overall, I'm very pleased with our start."

Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) shot a team-low 73 in the second round giving her a two-round seven-over 151, placing her in a tie for ninth. The second-round 73 is the junior's lowest-round of the year.

Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.) led the Eagles in the first round with a 76. The team's lone senior shot a second-round 77 placing her in a tie for 15th-place with a nine-over 153.

Freshman Elizabeth England (Oakland, Tenn.) is in a tie for 36th-place with a 16-over 160.

Junior Rebekah Pruett's (Niceville, Fla.) debut in the team competition concluded with two 83s, which puts her in a tie for 45th.

Freshman Mikaela Thibodeau (Davie, Fla.) used a second-round 85 to propel her up the leaderboard to a tie for 49th.

Host Campbell leads the team competition by seven shots over High Point and the Panthers' Sarah Bae leads the tournament after finishing the tournament shooting two-under.
