JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman swim grabbed a win against Lees-McRae in the first home meet of the season this evening by a margin of 320-85.

Carson-Newman swim came out with a dominant win in their first home meet of the season this evening, placing first in every event of the meet. The Eagles bested Lees-McRae 320-85 in 22 events.

"Our main goal was making sure that we won every race, and we got our hands on the wall one, two, and three a lot as well," head swim coach Ben Young said. "It's exciting to see that even with a smaller team this year, we still have a lot of depth within the program".

C-N men's swim ended the evening with a 152-52 victory over the Bobcats.

"We did really well, and we were working on our details. The relay at the end was a lot of fun," men's swimmer Benaiah McDowell said.

McDowell was part of the men's winning 200-yard freestyle relay. He raced with teammates Daniel Ribeiro, Arthur Gluzman, and Daniel de Oliveira, and the quartet finished with a finals time of 1:23.93. De Oliveira, Ribeiro, and Gluzman also competed in the men's 400-yard medley relay with teammate Asger Hartvig to win in 3:20.31.

The women put up 168 points to the Bobcat's 33 at the conclusion of the meet.

"I thought the team performance was really good. We've had a hard week of training, and I think we really learned how to get up and go. I swam the 200 free and the 100 free along with both of the relays, and I feel like they were good races with everyone in them. We ended up getting some good finishes with those," women's swimmer Kennadi King said.

King placed first in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.28 and grabbed gold again in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.34. During the women's 200-yard freestyle, King contributed to a first place finish with teammates Chrisman Rand, Emma Bowling, and Lily Parr. The quartet finished in 1:36.37. King also raced in the women's 400-yard medley relay with Rand, Breanna Belcher, and Ivanova Martina where the Eagles won gold in 3:53.50.

C-N will take on Mars Hill next Saturday, Oct. 28.

"Now, the big thing is keeping a good mentality for Mars Hill. This is my fourth year here, and we've never traveled to Mars Hill, so it'll be a good experience and a new experience getting to see the pool there," McDowell said.

The last time the two teams faced off was C-N swim's senior night last January when the Eagles came away victorious with a final score 307-93.

"We just want to get better each time we are in the water. There's still a lot of racing to come. This upcoming week, there are obviously going to be some very close races. Mars Hill has a few fast people on the team that are going to give us a great race, so it's going to be about finding ways to get our hands on the wall first. We just want to swim with heart every once in a while, too. We can be tired, but a lot of it comes through with heart. There are still plenty of opportunities to get better," Young said.

Carson-Newman swim is back in action next Saturday, Oct. 27 at 6:00 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
