C-N grabs the win over Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C.- Carson-Newman swimming is headed home from Mars Hill, N.C. with another dominant victory on the season. The Eagles bested the Lions 256-149 in a 22-event dual meet. 

Carson-Newman swim is three-for-three on the season after tonight's win over Mars Hill. The Eagles picked up 256 points throughout the night to the Lions' 149. 

The women's team contributed 148 points to the overall team score, winning 10 of 11 events over the course of the evening. 

The women began the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Emma Bowling, Antonia Sanint, Martina Ivanova, and Mandi Chadwell finished the event in 1:49.75. Bowling continued to impress with a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 24.63. Teammate Kennadi King finished shortly after in 24.73 for silver in the event. The Eagles swept the podium in the women's 1,000-yard freestyle. Maria Tirulli grabbed first in 11:09.95, while Fernanda Bautista (11:24.05) and Christa Schlimper (11:34.04) rounded out the top-3. Makayla Young won gold in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:09.98. 

Chrisman Rand made an impression with her first-place finish in the women's 200-yard IM in 2:13.66, and Lily Parr snagged gold in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.61. Freshman Sarah Covington won the 100-yard backstroke with a final time of 57.70. In the women's 100-yard breaststroke, Breanna Belcher finished first in 1:05.16, and Chadwell placed second in 1:08.82. The women wrapped up the night with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. King, Parr, Rand, and Sanint all contributed to the finish (1:36.59).

The men's team added 108 points to the Eagles' combined score, winning five events throughout the night. Asger Hartvig won the men's 200-yard IM in 1:57.91, and Jakov Igrec grabbed second in 2:00.96. Hartvig went on to win the 100-yard breastroke in 58.44. Daniel Ribeiro finished first in the 100-yard freestyle, and Tyler Schehr won gold in the 100-yard backstroke (51.86). In the men's 500-yard freestyle, Alonso Castro grabbed a win in 4:42.91. 

The Eagles head home with another win, besting Mars Hill 256-149. C-N swim will be back in action next weekend at the Emory Fall Invitational. The invite lasts two days and begins on Friday, Nov. 3. Stay up to date on cneagles.com.
