AUSTIN, Texas- Carson-Newman men's swimmers Asger Hartvig and Benaiah McDowell were selected to join the 2023-24 CSC Academic All-America Men's Swimming & Diving Teams, as announced by College Sports Communicators this afternoon, April 24.
Hartvig and McDowell became Academic All-Americans this afternoon, April 24, joining 29 other NCAA Divsion II men's swimmers in the Academic All-America selections. Hartvig garnered First Team Academic All-America honors, and McDowell grabbed Second Team Academic All-America distinction.
Hartvig is a junior swimmer from Hoersholm, Denmark who is majoring in mathmatics. He has a 4.0 GPA. Hartvig became a CSC First Team Academic All-American after joining the CSC Academic All-District team on Tuesday, April 2. Hartvig is one of nine repeat selections for the Division II Academic All-American team, as he was also selected for his success in the classroom during the 2022-23 swimming season. Aside from academic prowess, Hartvig became an Honorable Mention All-American in the men's 400-yard medley relay during the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships in mid-March. The team finished 11th in 3:11.18. Hartvig competed in the men's 200 medley relay to earn Honorable Mention All-American status in 1:26.98, a new school record.
McDowell is a senior from Simpsonville, S.C. who has a current 3.91 GPA. He is majoring in finance. After joining the Acadmic All-District Team on Tuesday, April 2, McDowell was selected as a finalist for the CSC Academic All-America Team. He now holds Second Team Academic All-America honors. At the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships, McDowell contributed to a 12th-place finish in the men's 400-yard freestyle relay. The team completed the race in 2:56.58 to earn Honorable Mention All-American status.
