Eagles finish third at Emory Fall Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga.- Carson-Newman swim is headed home from the Emory Fall Invitational with a third-place combined team finish. 

The Eagles ended the second day of the Emory Fall Invitational with a third-place finish and 746.50 total points. Carson-Newman men's swim finished third in the meet with 447.50 points, and the women finished fourth and added 317 points to the team score. 

Both the men's and women's teams placed third in the 200-yard medley relay this morning. Kyla Blakemore, Breanna Belcher, Chrisman Rand, and Lily Parr finished third in 1:45.57, falling only to Emory University who swept the top two podium spots in the event. The men's team placed third as well, following two strong Emory relay squads. Daniel Ribeiro, Asger Hartvig, Daniel de Oliveira, and Arthur Gluzman finished the event in 1:30.09. 

In the men's 1650-yard freestyle, Alonso Castro grabbed fifth in 16:20.01. On the women's side of competition, Makayla Young took home sixth in 17:43.50. 

Rand, Parr, and Kennadi King all finished in the top-10 in the women's 50-yard freestyle. Rand swam the event in 24.08, Parr finished in 24.25, and King followed shortly behind in 24.32 seconds. The Eagles finished fifth, eighth, and 10th respectively. Gluzman grabbed bronze in the men's 50 free in 20.70, followed by teammate Ribeiro who finished fourth in 21.10. De Oliveira took fifth in the event in 21.15. 

Belcher made an impression in the 200-yard breaststroke with a fifth-place finish in 2:22.62. Hartvig finished ninth in the men's event in 2:09.30. 

Martina Ivanova placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a finals time of 57.09, and de Oliveira (48.74) and Ribeiro (49.00) placed fourth and sixth on the men's side of competition. 

Jakov Igrec placed ninth in the men's 400-yard IM in 4:11.15. The men ended the second day of competition with a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Benaiah McDowell competed with teammates Ribeiro, de Oliveira, and Gluzman to finish in 3:01.91. The women's team finished fifth in 3:33.32. King, Parr, Rand, and Antonia Sanint each swam a leg.
