All-American swims highlight the final day of national competition

GENEVA, Ohio- Carson-Newman swim leaves the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships ranked top-20 among Division II swimming and diving teams this evening, Mar. 16. 

Arthur Gluzman earned Honorable Mention All-American status in the men's 100-yard freestyle finals this evening, Mar. 16. He placed 13th in Division II in 43.75. Gluzman finished 14th in the prelims for the event in 43.73 during the morning session to grab a new personal best. His preliminary performance marked the fourth fastest 100 free time in Carson-Newman swim's history. Gluzman's best performance in the 100 free was 43.91 prior to the NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships. He won gold in the event with that time during the 2024 SAC Swimming Championships. Teammate Daniel de Oliveira finished 20th in the 100 free prelims in 43.86. De Oliveira bested his previous personal record as well and goes down in the history books as the fifth fastest performer in the event in school history. 

In the women's 200-yard backstroke consolation final, Kyla Blakemore finished fourth in 1:58.96. She finished 12th overall in Division II to become an Honorable Mention All-American. Blakemore found the 16th spot in the prelims with her 2:00.62 swim during the morning session. Breanna Belcher finished 25th in the women's 200-yard breaststroke prelims in 2:18.97 with a new personal best time. 

The Eagles' 400-yard freestyle relays competed for All-American status during the evening session today, Mar. 16. Kennadi King, Chrisman Rand, Antonia Sanint, and Emma Bowling finished the race in 3:24.48 to grab 11th in the nation and earn Honorable Mention All-American status. The men finished 12th in DII in 2:56.58 with a new season-best time. Gluzman, de Oliveira, Benaiah McDowell, and Daniel Ribeiro each earned Honorable Mention All-American status for their efforts. 

Carson-Newman men's swim ranked 20th in the nation after tonight's final races. The men racked up 50 total team points at the conclusion of the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships. The women's team finished 18th in Division II with 64 total points. 

The conclusion of the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships marks the end of C-N swim's near seven-month season. The Eagles leave the season with new All-Americans, and both teams finish nationals ranked top-20 in Division II.
