Blakemore grabs Honorable Mention All-American honors in the 100 back

GENEVA, Ohio- Carson-Newman women's swimmer Kyla Blakemore earned Honorable Mention All-American status in the women's 100-yard backstroke after placing third in the consolation final for the event in 55.07 during the fourth day of the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships this evening, Mar. 15.

"It's been a fantastic day overall," head swim coach Ben Young said. "I'm really proud of Kyla, and the entire group that is here has been executing each race".

Blakemore placed 11th in Division II in the women's backstroke this evening, Mar. 15, after a 55.07-second performance in the consolation final for the event. She raced in the prelims for the event during the morning session and finished 15th in 55.03. Blakemore finished third in the event in 55.32 at the 2024 SAC Swimming Championships in mid-February. She is now walking out of the national meet an Honorable Mention All-American.

The women's 200-yard freestyle relay team competed for All-American status during the evening session today, Mar. 15. Chrisman Rand, Kennadi King, Emma Bowling, and Antonia Sanint finished the race in 1:33.34 to garner Honorable Mention All-American honors.

"I've been happy with our relays throughout the meet," Young said. "We are definitely looking to bounce back and continue to keep up that pace as we head into tomorrow".

In the women's 100-yard breaststroke prelims, Breanna Belcher finished 17th in 1:03.21. Belcher was one spot away from competing in the consolaton final for the event. She was invited to the national meet for her 1:03.00 seed time that she acquired with a second-place finish in the timed final for the event against the University of Indianapolis earlier this season.

Tomorrow, Mar. 16, Daniel de Oliveira and Arthur Gluzman will race in the men's 100-yard freestyle prelims during the morning session that begins at 10:00 a.m. Blakemore will race again in the women's 200-yard backstroke prelims, and teammate Belcher will race for her spot in the finals during the women's 200-yard breaststroke event. The women's and men's 400-yard freestyle relays will compete during the evening session that is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. Live results can be found HERE

"I'm excited about our individual swims tomorrow morning," Young said. "It should be a great opportunity for us to finish out the weekend strong".
