NEWBERRY, S.C. — The Carson-Newman men's tennis team defeated Newberry, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at Cannon Courts.
With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-5 on the season and 2-3 in the conference. Newberry falls to 1-8 overall and 0-4 in SAC play.
C-N got off to a slow start, losing two out of the three doubles matches, but it rebounded to win four out of the six singles matches to claim the victory.
Juniors Adriano Kira (Brazil) and Chris Acker (Knoxville, Tenn.) gave the Eagles their first win of the day in No. 3 doubles as they topped Newberry's Samuel Cartin and Scott Busbee, 8-1.
Rudolfo Schwarz (Brazil), Trent Slagle (Knoxville, Tenn.), Paul Birdsong (Woodstock, Ga.) and Derek Holdway (Woodstock, Ga.) then won their respective singles matches to lead C-N to the win.
The Eagles return to the court on Sunday at North Georgia.
