SEVIERVILLE, Tenn – The Carson-Newman men's golf team really likes playing at the Sevierville Golf Club.

For the second consecutive tournament at the Eagles home course, Carson-Newman placed in the top-two, taking second at the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate. Junior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished the tournament tied for second, finishing one shot over par.

"We really made a run at that them. Through about 14, I think we had caught up, maybe one shot behind, which was really exciting and encouraging and felt really good about it and we just made a couple of doubles and a triple, like all at the same time, so we went from right in it with a chance to win it to struggling a little bit at the end and we kind of didn't finish as strong as we would like," coach Randy Wylie said after the round.

It was a solid finish to start the year, but its our home course, our home tournament and we wanted to win the thing and we are disappointed we didn't win it."

The Eagles entered the day six shots behind Limestone College, but they dropped eight shots to the Saints to settle for second.

For Hall, the junior began the day in sixth and made a surge to jump to second in the standings. Sophomore Dalton Reese (Warrington, Ga.) finished the tournament tied for sixth at four-over. He moved up a spot from the beginning of the round.

Juniors Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) and Nathan Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) both finished at 12-over, tied for 12th.

"I came in second, the team came in second. We didn't play as good as our last round yesterday, but still got a lot to build on for the tournament at Kiawah, so hopefully we can take some things we did well from here and translate that to Kiawah's tournament," Hall said.

Limestone's Griffin Brown won the individual competition, finishing the tournament at one-under.

The Eagles' next tournament will be September 15th and 16th at the Kiawah Island Invitational in Kiawah Island, S.C.
