Eagles land in second-place after first day at State Farm Intercollegiate

TOWNSEND, Tenn. – Four member of the Carson-Newman men's golf team shot below-par rounds Monday as the Eagles are in second-place after the first two rounds of the 2014 State Farm Intercollegiate at Woodlake Golf Club.

Juniors Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Nickalus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) are in the top-five of the personal standings going into Tuesday's final round.

"We played very well this morning, okay in the afternoon. Andrew Hall and Nickalus Kennedy continued their excellent play," coach Randy Wylie said. "Nickalus cracked the head of his driver midway through the second round, very unlucky. He handled it with great maturity and did not let it ruin his day."

Hall is in a tie for third-place after shooting a 68 and 69 in his first two rounds for a seven-under 137. Kennedy used rounds of 68 and 72 for a four-under 140, placing him in fifth-place.

Sophomore Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) shot a one-over 145 after a second round 71, putting him in 14th. Freshman Stephen Hill's (Knoxville, Tenn.) first-round 71 put him in early contention and sits in a tie for 23rd after day one.

Individuals Nathan Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Corey Bray (Caryville, Tenn.) are two shots apart as Hodge is in a tie for 33rd with a two-round total of 149 and Bray is tied for 38th with a seven-over 151.

Freshman Ben Kennard (Corryton, Tenn.) shot two rounds of 77 for a 10-over 154, placing him in a tie for 47th.

"We continue to work on shoring up the bottom of our order. We had to count to 77 in the second round; we have to do better than that to beat the very best teams," Wylie said

The Eagles are four shots behind host Lincoln Memorial's A-team and the Railsplitters' Braden Gaylon leads the tournament, three shots ahead of Hall and two shots ahead of Tusculum's Brad Hawkins

The final round of the State Farm Intercollegiate takes place Tuesday morning at Woodlake Golf Club.
