Hall tied for seventh after first round of SAC Championships

MARVIN, N.C. – Carson-Newman junior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot a team-low 75 and is tied for seventh after the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships at Firethorn Country Club.

The Eagles' team is 12th after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament.

"Andrew played solid. Apparently, I didn't prepare the rest of the guys well enough," coach Randy Wylie said.

Hall opened with a birdie on the par-four second hole to get his round started. Five straight pars followed the junior's birdie before a bogey on the par-three eight. He finished the front nine at even par. A stretch of three straight bogeys on the 13th, 14th and 15th holes were sandwiched between six pars on the back nine to finish Hall's round at 75.

Hall is tied for third in the field with scoring on par fours as he averages four strokes and plays the holes at even-par.

Sophomore Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) used 12 pars to card a round of 80, including four pars to open his round. Consecutive double bogeys on the seventh and eight holes put Reese at five-over through the front nine but pars on six of the last nine holes allowed the sophomore to head into the clubhouse at eight-over.

Junior Nathan Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) shot a first round score of 81 for the third-lowest Carson-Newman score. Hodge recorded 10 pars and a birdie on the par-five 17 during his round. He shot five-over on the front nine and four-over on the back nine for his total of nine-over heading into the final round.

Freshman Ben Kennard (Corryton, Tenn.) carded an 86 during his debut round at the SAC Championships. Kennard birdied two holes, which was the most by an Eagle during the round. Junior Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario) shot a 15-over 87 in a round that featured eight pars and a birdie.

The final round of the SAC Championships tees off Tuesday morning from the Firethorn Country Club. Results will be available following the conclusion of the round.
