Eagles shot to 11th-place tie after first day at McDonough Cup

ORLANDO, Fla. – Carson-Newman men's golf coach Randy Wylie knew what was in store for his team at this week's McDonough Cup at the Rio Grande Country Club in Orlando, Fla.

After the first two rounds of McDonough Cup, the Eagles are in a tie for 11th-place, but Wylie expects better play out of his team during Tuesday's final round.

"I thought we played very mediocre today," coach Randy Wylie said. "We can do better; no one had their best day. Big day tomorrow; big field with a lot of great teams so we need to bounce back strong."

Junior Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) led the team after the two rounds as he shot a 73 and 75 to put him at four-over 148, which placed him a tie for 32nd.

Sophomore Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) finished Monday one shot behind his teammate Kennedy. Reese shot a first-round 74 and sits in a tie for 40th at five-over.

Junior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) used rounds of 77 and 76 to finish in a tie for 62th with a nine-over 153.

Freshman Steven Hill (Knoxville, Tenn.) tied for the team's low score of the day with a second-round 73 and is tied for 66th at a 10-over 154. Junior Nathan Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) returned to the team competition and finished tied for 92nd with a 16-over 160.

Lynn leads the team competition by five shots over Nova Southeastern and Lynn's Elliot Whitley leads the tournament with a 10-under 134.

The final 18 holes of the McDonough Cup begins Tuesday morning at Rio Grande Country Club.
