Eagles impressive in second straight win

BREVARD, N.C. -- The Carson-Newman women's tennis team (3-2, 2-0 SAC) picked up its second straight victory Sunday afternoon as the Eagles took down the Brevard Tornados (1-7, 0-4 SAC) in a 6-3 route.

"This was a good win for us," coach Jean Love said of her Eagle club. "Brevard was solid at the top of the lineup."

As has been the theme all season, the Eagles swiftly jumped out to a 2-0 lead early on as they took two of the three doubles matches. Sydney Ledington (Corbin, KY) teamed up with Brooke Sanderson (Evans, GA) to take down a pair of Tornados 8-3 at No. 2 doubles. Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, TN) took No. 3 doubles by default.

After losing the no. 1 and 2 singles matches, Carson-Newman never looked back while taking the final four matches, all in only two sets. Guerreiro won 6-0 and 6-1 at No. 3 competition. Sanderson followed suit, winning 6-4 and 6-0 at No. 4. Haleigh Chastain (Knoxville, TN) continued the trend at No. 5, winning 6-3 and 6-4 and Ledington was victories at No. 6 by default.

Though the Eagles looked impressive wile picking up their second straight South Atlantic Conference victory, coach Jean Love is always looking improvement.

"We had match points at No.1 doubles and No. 2 singles," Love said. "We must convert on those opportunities."

Carson-Newman will return home Monday afternoon looking to continue its good play. They will take on Anderson University at 3 p.m at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.
