Eagles looking for revenge on Indians, Bulldogs

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn — Carson-Newman (4-3, 2-1) will again hit the road this weekend for some more highly competitive conference play. They will travel to Catawba on Friday for a 1 p.m. start time and again to Wingate on Saturday for a 3 p.m. date.

Catawba (8-7, 0-4) currently sits 11th in the South Atlantic Conference standings. After finding early season success in the fall, the Cherokees are hungry for their first conference win of the season. Catawba had their way with Carson-Newman in their last meeting, winning 5-4 a year ago.

Wingate (6-4, 5-0) currently rides a four-match win streak and sits atop of the SAC women's tennis standings. Finding their way after early season struggles, the Bulldogs are riding on the backs of preseason All-SAC selections Caroline Holland and Layla Tanik. The Eagles were shut out a year ago while hosting Wingate, losers of a 9-0 route.

"The upcoming conference road trip to Catawba and Wingate is important," coach Love said. "It is important for us to continue to get more consistent at the process of competing in a pressure packed conference away match environment."

Carson-Newman will have no choice but to rely on the dynamic duo of Patricia Guerreiro (Portugal) and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn). The vibrant No. 3 doubles team has compiled an undefeated record so far this season (6-0) and been the driving force to the team's success.
