Eagles set for trip down I-75 for contest against Tennessee Wesleyan

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — After falling to the South Atlantic Conference leading Wingate Bulldogs during its last match, the Carson-Newman women's tennis team (5-4) will look to get back to its winning ways Thursday with a trip down I-75 to Athens, Tenn. for a 2 p.m. non-conference showdown with Tennessee Wesleyan College (3-4).

The Eagles will be trying to win their fourth match in five tries.

The NAIA Bulldogs currently sit fourth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) standings and are fresh off a 5-0 victory over Point University. Their lone senior, Kristen Camp, guides a team that is comprised of five freshman and three sophomores.

Assistant coach Ekaterina Vezhenkova left her mark in the Tennessee Wesleyan tennis program, as she was an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention just a year ago. The 2013-14 AAC player of the year finished her Bulldog career with a combined singles record of 31-3 and 27-7 in doubles.

Carson-Newman has been battling some injuries as of late. Three of their six singles players have been sidelined over the span of the past few matches. The health of these players will be a key factor heading into the match.

"We are going into the match with some unknowns due to the injury status of Jill (Corsato-Owisianka), Sydney (Ledington), and Haleigh (Chastain)," coach Jean Love stated. "I hope that we can get some if not all of these players ready for this week."

A full recap over the Carson-Newman and Tennessee Wesleyan match will be available Thursday afternoon on cneagles.com.
