Eagles on the road again against Coker

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman women's tennis team is set to take on the Coker Cobras Saturday in Hartsville, S.C. marking the halfway point through conference competition this season.

The Eagles have edged the Cobras in three of the past five meetings and look to add to that tally Saturday after coming off a tough loss against Tusculum on Wednesday.

The Eagles are 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. They have been unable to get in the groove enough to go on a streak as their wins have come every other match since the beginning of the season. Freshman Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) has been the constant on the team with her 7-3 singles record at the No. 1 position.

"Ana Carla is playing great for her first year," Coach Jim Frederick said. "The rest of the girls have improved quite a bit since last fall and even the beginning of the season. We're taking it one match at a time and still focusing on our attitude, controlling what we can control and competing well."

Finishing last season 7-11 and are going on a 3-9 record this season, the Cobras team is made up entirely of underclassmen having added three freshman to the roster. There are only four returners as sophomores including Charlotte Clarke who went 12-6 in singles play last season. Coker lost one of their best players they ever had in the program in Jennifer Mezei who had the second most singles wins in Coker history.

The match will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday morning, for results and updates check back on cneagles.com.
