JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman (7-6, 4-2 SAC) hit the ground running Wednesday afternoon against Mars Hill (8-9, 1-5 SAC) shutting out the Lions 7-0 at Mossy Creek. 

The doubles finished quickly with Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Germany) dominating Emma Horner and Victoria Franklin giving them a big 6-0 loss for the first match of the day at No. 3. Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) and Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) finished second for the Eagles and secured the doubles point by defeating Julianne Launay and Evan Lake at No. 1, 6-3. Finishing last but with a big win as well was the #46 ITA ranked doubles team of Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Abby Reis (Des Moines, IA) defeating Sophia Pelaez and Haley Steinkamp 6-2.

Moving into singles play Liashova took control of her match at No. 4 taking down Fraklin 6-2, 6-2 with commanding serves and a forehand that couldn't be touched. Vuckovic closed out her match at the No. 6 position in similar fashion against Horner 6-0, 6-2 to stretch the lead to 3-0.

At No. 2 singles, Harris found herself falling behind as she got down 5-2 in her first set against Pelaez. However, after encouragement and help from coach Jim Frederick to settle down she didn't drop another game in the first set and came back to win the match 7-5, 6-2. Price and Reis seemed to have no trouble at all in their matches at No. 3 and No. 5. Price defeated Launay 6-1, 6-0 and Reis got the dub against Steinkamp 6-1, 6-1.

Resende was the only one to give up a set to the Lions as she dropped her first in a tiebreaker to Lake 6-7 (5-7) at No. 1. She came back and won the second set 6-0 with ease and due to the match being decided only played a ten point tiebreaker for the third set winning 10-6.

After today's match the Eagles are sitting at No. 5 in the South Atlantic Conference standings just behind Queens. Already on a two win streak, if C-N keeps up the good play they could make their way up to No. 4.

The next match for the Eagles will be in just three days on Saturday, March 30 at Catawba at 1 p.m.
