Eagles Put Forth Collective Effort, Finish Fourth in Cateechee Fall Invitational

HARWELL, Ga. – The Carson-Newman men's golf team returned to the course for the final 20 holes of the Cateechee Fall Invitational, improving five strokes as a team and finishing in 4th overall. 

The Eagles finished six strokes under par as a team, and Elliot MacGregor led the Eagles finishers tied for 13th with an impressive 68-stroke final 18 holes after shooting a 74 in the second round. MacGregor finished the two-day tournament at 3-under.

"It was very nice to move up the leaderboard today," head coach Randy Wylie said. "We had some strong finishes led by a stellar 68 from Elliot MacGregor."

Slotting in shortly after MacGregor was Luke Stock and Antonio Farinella, with both golfers tying for 18th. Stock matched his round two total, shooting a 70 in the final 18 holes, while Farinella shot a 72, putting both Eagles at 2-under par at the end of the tournament.

Newcomer Nick Daugherty finished tied for 58th in his Eagles debut, shooting a 72 in the final round after back-to-back 73-stroke performances in the first two rounds. Daugherty finished at 5-over.

Taylor Kilgore rounded out the Eagles tied for 66th, shooting a 76 in the final round of action. Kilgore finished at 7-over par for the tournament.

It was a new challenge for the Eagles, and they took it in stride, placing 4th as a team after a collective effort on the second day of action. The Eagles will return to compete in the Hurricane Invitational in Albany, Georgia, on October 16th and 17th.
