Eagles Tied for Third After Day Two of SAC Championships

ORANGEBURG, SC—Following another solid day on the course, Carson-Newman is tied for third after day two of the SAC Championships at 22-over as a team.

Elliot MacGregor was impressive on day two, shooting a 70 in the second round to jump to 5th place.

"Elliot had a really fine round today and led our team," head coach Randy Wylie said. "It puts us in a position to have a really high finish tomorrow if we can produce a solid round as a team."

While stroking three early bogeys, the junior settled in, shooting back-to-back bogeys before a par on hole nine. MacGregor dropped a stroke on the back nine, shooting a birdie on hole 11 before sitting at par the rest of the way to finish at even par.

Noah Cambridge had another solid day, shooting a 73 in round two to finish the day tied for 11th. Despite three bogeys on the front nine, the freshman shot five holes at par and a birdie to close out the first nine holes. On the back nine, Cambridge did a solid job limiting the damage of a double bogey, stroking two birdies before adding a stroke with a bogey on hole 17, finishing the round at 3-over.

Luke Stock marks the third Eagle in the top 20, tying for 20th after day two with a 74-stroke effort in the second round. Stock was fairly consistent throughout the round but had three bogeys on the front nine to sit at 3-over when making the turn. On the back nine, Stock matched a bogey on hole 14 with a birdie on 16 before finishing his day with a bogey on 18 to finish the day at 4-over.

Aidan Powter slots in shortly after, coming in tied for 22nd after a 75 in round two. Shooting four bogeys on the front nine, Powter limited the damage with a birdie on four and stroking the final three holes of the front nine at par. On the back nine, Powter shot seven of the nine holes at par, but two bogeys added a pair of strokes to his total, finishing the round at 5-over.

Nick Daugherty rounds out the Eagles on day two, tied for 47th, shooting a 78 in round two. Despite shooting 11 holes at par, Daugherty also shot six bogeys and a double bogey to add eight strokes to his total. However, only three of those bogeys came on the back nine, as he found consistency down the stretch to finish the round at 8-over.

Tied with Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne, C-N can climb the leaderboard further in round three tomorrow.

The Eagles look to close out the SAC Championships strong tomorrow, starting at 9 AM in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
