C-N Heads to SAC Championships to Compete Against Stout Conference Field

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – A few weeks after the end of the regular season, No. 45 Carson-Newman heads to Orangeburg, South Carolina, to compete in the SAC Championships against a strong conference field starting on Sunday.

"We are excited about heading to the SAC Tournament," head coach Randy Wylie said. "As an NCAA bubble team, we are going to approach this as an underdog motivational situation... We have an experienced team, so we know we need to rise to the occasion."

The Eagles last competed in the Argonaut Invitational, featuring many of the country's top programs. Teams in the field included No. 1 North Georgia, No. 2 Lincoln Memorial, No. 4 Georgia Southwestern, and No. 5 Oklahoma Christian.

C-N finished the event in 15th, led by three rounds at par from Luke Stock, finishing at a team-high 18th place. Stock has consistently provided solid efforts throughout the regular season, and the Eagles will look to him to produce a similar output.

The Eagles currently sit at No. 11 in the southeast region in the most recent regional rankings, joined by conference foes Lincoln Memorial at No. 2, Coker at No. 7, Wingate at No. 9, and Lenoir-Rhyne at No. 10. With a competitive effort this weekend, C-N could make its case to move up the rankings.

Although at a different course, the Eagles notched a 7th-place finish at last season's SAC Championships. C-N finished just behind the top half of the conference, shooting two strokes behind 6th-place Limestone.

Stock led the Eagles tied for 10th, shooting two consecutive 71s before a 76 in the final round to finish two strokes over par. Two other current Eagles competed in the event a year ago, with Elliot MacGregor notching a 30th-place finish and Aidan Powter tying for 37th.

While the Orangeburg Country Club will bring its own challenges, the three returners bring postseason experience. Newcomers Nick Daugherty and Noah Cambridge will join Stock, MacGregor, and Powter in the lineup for the SAC Championships.

The SAC Championships will span three days with one round on each day of action. The first round tees off on Sunday morning at 10:45 AM at the Orangeburg Country Club in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
