JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (2-3-2, 1-1-1 SAC) steps back onto McCown Field to face Lenoir-Rhyne (5-2-1, 2-0-1 SAC), voted no. 1 in the 2013 conference preseason poll, Saturday at 5 p.m.

"Lenoir-Rhyne has been at the top of the table for the past few years," Carson-Newman head soccer coach Richard Moodie said. "They are definitely a team that has two or three players that can make a difference."

Carson-Newman is coming off a 2-0 loss at Young Harris last Wednesday. C-N outshot the Mountain Lions 14 to 13. Junior captain Sidnee Edwards (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Eagles in shots with four taken and one on net.

"Last night we were the better team even facing the two nil defeat," Moodie said. "We just couldn't take chances in the final third."

The Bears beat Belmont Abbey 2-1 in double overtime on Wednesday. Belmont Abbey opened the scoring in the 24^th minute. With three minutes left in the first half, Garcelle Alequine scored her fourth goal of the season, assisted by Lizzie McNamara, to tie it up. In the 110^th minute, Ariel Dominguez scored her first goal of the year off a rebound to win the game for the Bears. L-R outshot Belmont Abbey 28 to 11.

"We're a young team," Moodie said. "Girls are stepping up and making a difference, and that's what we want."

Last season, the Eagles lost to L-R 2-0. Alequine scored in the first six minutes for L-R to take the lead. In the 74^th minute, Kendall Smith got her fifth goal of the season for the two-goal win.

The Bears outshot C-N 28 to 4. Eagles' goalkeeper Tiarna McKenna (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) had ten saves.

"Right now our goal is to focus on the conference and play well," Moodie said. "Lenoir-Rhyne will be a good team; we're going to have to work hard to get a result. But if we show up, we can give anybody a game."
