Softball adds Monday doubleheader with Concord, welcomes USC Aiken Tuesday

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (12-2) head softball coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield has added a Monday doubleheader with Concord at 1:30 p.m.  The Eagles are scheduled to take on USC Aiken at The Vick Tuesday.

The Eagles are riding a string of 26 consecutive shutout innings after four consecutive shutout wins in the Carson-Newman Classic over the weekend.  The Eagles notched an 8-0 and a 9-0 win over Lees-McRae while taking an 8-0 win over Davis & Elkins and a 5-0 win over Indiana Wesleyan.

Through those contests, freshman pitcher Danielle Kranz (Fairfield, Calif.) worked eight consecutive innings of no-hit ball through two games including her no-hitter against the Senators.

Concord has accrued a 4-7 record, but hasn't played a game since dropping both ends of a doubleheader 5-0 and 5-4 to USC Aiken on Feb. 21.

The Eagles have won the first four meetings in the series.

C-N is 8-4 all-time against USC Aiken in the series that dates back to 1999.  The Eagles last faced the Pacers during the 2013 season winning 1-0 and 4-3 in 10 innings. The Pacers left an astounding 18 runners on base in the second game of that series. A Sara Kelley solo home run powered the Eagles to that game one win.

The Pacers are off to a 9-1 start this season.  The Pacers lone loss came with a 6-3 defeat to South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry.

USC Aiken has a 2.14 team ERA led by junior pitcher Taylor Morgan who has 40 strikeouts.

Both games will be available on the Eagle Sports Network with free high definition streams at Cneagles.com/live.
