Eagles, No. 21 Trojans tangle for first place in SAC

C-N Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – First place in the South Atlantic Conference is on the line when Carson-Newman (28-10, 10-4 SAC) and No. 21 Anderson (29-9, 10-4 SAC) get together for a doubleheader at the Trojans' Smethers Field at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Carson-Newman is coming off a doubleheader, shutout sweep at the hands of Wingate on Saturday.  The Trojans took two from Winston-Salem State Saturday but were swept by Catawba Friday.

Unable to distance themselves from one another playing other SAC competition, the teams now go toe-to-toe.

Carson-Newman leads the all-time series 30-8, but it's belonged to Anderson of late.  The Trojans have beaten Carson-Newman on six-consecutive occasions. Dating back to a win in the 2012 SAC tournament.

Only one other team can boast of a six-game win streak over Carson-Newman softball in its existence - Kennesaw State. The Owls won 15 straight on C-N in the late 90s as KSU made three national title game appearances.

This year's matchup features the most potent offenses the SAC has to offer. The Eagles and Trojans are 1-2 in most offensive categories. In fact, steals and walks are the only two offensive categories where one of the teams doesn't occupy the number one spot.

Carson-Newman has the top spot for runs, hits, doubles, triples, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging.  Anderson leads the league in runs batted in and home runs and ranks second in runs, hits, walks and stolen bases.

Always one of the more prolific home run hitting teams, Anderson leads the SAC with 43 home runs. The Trojans have drilled multiple home runs in 12 games this year and are led by Cailah Niles' SAC best 13 home runs.

Barring rain, coverage for the contest will be available on the Eagle Sports Network with an audio stream available at cneagles.com/live.
