Eagles look to keep good times rolling against Flying Fleet

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (24-8, 8-2 South Atlantic Conference) seeks to keep momentum rolling from a Saturday doubleheader sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne when it welcomes in Erskine (12-14, 4-4 Conference Carolinas) Monday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Erskine is trying to establish its first ever three-game win streak over the Eagles in series history.  The Flying Fleet swept a regular season series from Carson-Newman for the first time ever earlier this season.

Erskine shut out Carson-Newman in game one 2-0 before rallying for a 5-4 victory in game two.  The 2-0 win in game one represents just one of three times this season that the Eagles high-flying offense has been shutout.

The Flying Fleet is led by pitcher Danica Newton.  She is 52nd in the country in strikeouts per seven innings with 7.5 and third in Conference Carolinas.  She has two shutouts on the season, one of which came against the Eagles.  She fanned nine Carson-Newman batters in the first meeting this season.

Carson-Newman's bats have been clicking of late. The Eagles have pounded out 10 or more hits in four of their last six contests.

It's been Elayna Siebert (Knoxville, Tenn.) who has had the hottest bat for the Eagles of late.  The junior rides a career-best 10-game hitting streak into Monday's doubleheader.  She has brought her batting average up 72 points over that span to a .438 average, which ranks second in the SAC and on the team behind Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.).

Siebert also has four home runs to speak of in the Eagles' last six games.

First pitch from the Vickee Kazee-Hollifield Softball Complex Monday is set for 2 p.m.  Coverage will be available on the Eagle Sports Network with a free high definition stream at cneagles.com/live.
