Carson-Newman can clinch 14th regular season SAC title versus Tusculum

C-N Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – If Carson-Newman (32-10, 14-4 South Atlantic Conference) wants to clinch no worse than a share of its 14th regular season SAC title, the Eagles will have to do something against Tusculum (19-19, 7-11 SAC) it hasn't done since 2009 – sweep the Pioneers at home.

First pitch Wednesday afternoon is set for 2 p.m. from the Vickee Kazee-Hollifield Softball Complex.

The Eagles control their own destiny with a two-game lead for first over Anderson and a three-game lead on Wingate. A sweep of Tusculum at home means the Eagles can celebrate their first league title since 2009. The Eagles need to win three of the final four games of the year to win their first outright league title since 2005.

Carson-Newman is 18-2 at home this year and a flawless 8-0 against the SAC in league action.  The Eagles can set a new school record for conference wins in a season with  their 15th league win of the season.

The Pioneers feature plenty of speed, TC is second in the SAC to Carson-Newman with eight triples on the season.

Carolyn Williamson leads the TC attack with a .360 average.  Kaytlin Stroinski has nine doubles, four triples and six home runs to go along with 28 runs batted in.

Haley Taylor (Strawberry Plains, Tenn.) is whacking the ball for C-N. Over the Eagles' last two series, she produced eight hits, a .558 batting average and scored seven runs.
