Lockett lands TSWA state player of the week plaudit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman junior outfielder Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) has been named player of the week for the state of Tennessee by the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

Lockett batted .600 (9-for-15) with one home run, six RBIs and four runs scored in four contests for the Eagles. The Fontana, Calif., native collected multiple hits in all four games and has nine consecutive outings with multiple hits.

The junior infielder collected two hits in both ends of a doubleheader against Concord University, scoring two runs in the second contest. Lockett was 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs in the first of two outings at King University and posted two more hits with a homer and four RBIs in the second game of the twinbill.

Lockett is batting .566 through 17 games this season with seven doubles, two triples, five home runs, 22 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This is the first such honor for a Carson-Newman softball player this season. 

Lockett saw a 12-game hitting streak come to an end at Georgia College Tuesday.

She and the rest of the Eagles are back in action Saturday with their conference opener at Coker.
