Dean hauls in SAC Pitcher of the Week honor

VIDEO: Lindsay Dean Interview

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman softball pitcher Lindsay Dean (Coeburn, Va.) has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday morning.

Dean went 1-0 this past week with a career high nine strikeouts in the Eagles' 15-1 win over Fort Valley State Thursday.

"She's a student of the game," head coach Kazee-Hollifield said. "She knows what a tough region were in and that we have to work throughout the year, it's not just for a week."

She only walked one, surrendered one hit and the run that the Wildcats managed to score came as the result of back-to-back Eagle errors.

"It's an honor to get it as a freshman because I never thought it would happen to me," Dean said. "I'm glad I have a team and a catcher behind me to trust should anything go wrong."

Dean only needed 67 pitches to do her damage in that game in the circle. She faced just four above the minimum for the contest.

She boasts a 1.69 ERA on the season which is good for sixth best in the SAC.  Dean joins outfielder Bre Lockett (Fontana, Calif.) as the Eagles' SAC Player/Pitcher of the Week honorees this season.

Dean and the rest of the Eagles will be in action Wednesday against Lees-McRae at 1 p.m.  Coverage of the contest is available on the Eagle Sports Network online with a free high definition stream at cneagles.com/live.
