ORLANDO, Fla. – Carson-Newman utility infielder Elayna Siebert (Knoxville, Tenn.) has earned a spot on the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America first team to become the Eagle softball program's first academic All-American in a decade.
Siebert is the C-N softball program's fourth academic All-American, joining Amy McMahon (1994), Marci Mitchell (2002-03) and Haley Allen (2003-04).
An accounting major with a flawless 4.00 GPA, Siebert was one of just two juniors selected to the first team (along with Spring Hill's Caroline Sagrera).
She is the only player from the South Atlantic Conference to earn Academic All-America honors this year.
Siebert came on late to finish as the runner up to teammate Bre Lockett for the league's batting title with a .440 average (also good for 86th in the nation). Siebert also earned first team all-conference and all-region honors as a freshman utility player.
In conference play only, Siebert is second in the league in HR (8), RBI (20) and total bases (50). She leads the league in conference play only with 19 runs scored.
Siebert put together the longest hitting streak of the season for an Eagle at 14 games. She has 17 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI games.
Siebert matched the school record for double in a game with a three-double game against Mars Hill.
