Bryant, Howard tabbed for Bojangles Athletes of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman baseball's (Fletcher, N.C.) and softball's Sarah Howard (Georgetown, Ky.) have been named Bojangles' Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

Bryant made an appearance in four of the five games last week during a 5-0 streak for Carson-Newman. Bryant earned the save against Limestone and at UVA-Wise in the midweek working an inning while striking out a batter.

The Fletcher, N.C. native worked two innings against Winston-Salem State in the series opener allowing two hits while striking out four, to earn his first victory of the season in the Eagles walk-off 4-3 win over the Rams.

Bryant capped his week by earning his fifth save of the year in 1.1 innings of relief in the second game against the Rams. Bryant's fifth save marked the first time since Ryan Fillers in 2012 that an Eagle has tallied five saves in a year. The last time a Carson-Newman reliever had six saves was Corbin Arial in 2008.

Howard began her week by throwing a complete-game, two-hit shutout against Erskine.  She followed that up with a one-run, three-hit complete game victory against LMU.

Between the two contests, Howard retired 24 consecutive batters without allowing a base runner.

Against LMU, Howard was perfect through four innings and hitless through five.  She saw a string of 16 consecutive scoreless innings come to an end in the seventh against the Railsplitters.

She struck out 10 between the two contests.

Bojangles is a proud corporate sponsor of Carson-Newman athletics.  Eagle fans can get a free large sweet tea from the Jefferson City location the day after Carson-Newman basketball games where the Eagle women score 65 points or the men score 70 points by telling the cashier, "It's Bo Time at Carson-Newman."
