No fooling, Eagles open April with LMU

No fooling, Eagles open April with LMU

C-N Game Notes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (26-8, 8-2 South Atlantic Conference) will look to let the good times roll defensively when it welcomes in Lincoln Memorial (12-16, 3-5 SAC) to open up the month of April Wednesday at 2 at the Vickee Kazee-Hollifield Softball Complex.

The Eagles have wheeled off five consecutive victories and will look to extend a string of three shutouts and 21 consecutive scoreless innings.

C-N has developed into Pitch U. The Eagles boast the three best ERAs in the league. Lindsay Dean (Coeburn, Va.) leads the conference with a 1.54 ERA, Sarah Howard (Georgetown, Ky.) follows with a 1.57 figure and Danielle Kranz (Fairfield, Calif.) is third in the conference at 1.70.  On Saturday, Kranz became the first pitcher this season to work a complete game shutout against Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Eagles face an LMU team that's struggled to find its stroke at the plate this season.  The Railsplitters' .247 batting average is last in the league and the 95 runs LMU has scored are 10th in the conference.

LMU is in the bottom 30 nationally for batting average and on base percentage.

Amanda Snow is the only LMU player with an average higher than .300 this season. She's hit a team-best five home runs and driven in a team-high 21 runs.

Even with a dearth of offensive production, the Railsplitters boast some impressive wins. They handed Anderson one of the league-leading Trojans' two conference losses. The Railsplitters have also taken two games from Columbus State this season.

Carson-Newman first baseman Elayna Siebert (Knoxville, Tenn.) will look to keep a 12-game hitting streak rolling. It's the longest hit streak of any Eagle this season.

The Eagles – picked fourth in the preseason poll – are tied with Anderson for the league lead.  The two clubs are a half game in front of third-place Newberry.

First pitch from The Vick Wednesday is set for 2 p.m. Coverage will be available on the Eagle Sports Network with a free high definition stream at cneagles.com/live.
