Benson’s Bunch breaks into D2CSC national rankings

WILMINGTON, Del. – Carson-Newman men's basketball is nationally ranked for the first time in three-and-a-half years.

For the first time in program history, the Eagles are nationally ranked by the D2CSC Media Poll.  Carson-Newman's last national ranking appearance came on the heels of a SAC title win over No. 17 Queens. The Eagles vaulted into the NABC top 25 ahead of the NCAA tournament that season after winning 11 consecutive games.

C-N checks in in 24th in the poll.  Fellow SAC school Lincoln Memorial is ranked ahead of C-N in 21st.

C-N is the fourth-highest ranked school in the Southeast. North Georgia, who C-N faces on Dec. 21 is ranked fourth.  USC Aiken checks in in 15.

This marks Carson-Newman's first November appearance in a ranking since 2017.  The Eagles were ranked 23rd on Nov. 28 that year before a loss to Newberry knocked the Eagles out of the next iteration of the poll.

This is the fourth week that Carson-Newman has been nationally ranked under head coach Chuck Benson.

C-N opens the doors to Holt Fieldhouse Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Johnson & Wales.  Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 6:45 p.m. with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on MIX 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live. A video stream is available with a subscription to FloSports at cneagles.com/FloMBB.
