INDIANAPOLIS – Carson-Newman's men's basketball program has been listed as one of 10 teams receiving consideration for the NCAA tournament.
The alphabetical listing is the first of three region rankings that the NCAA publicizes leading up to the NCAA tournament. The rankings, which move to 1-10 next week, are the official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process and will continue to be released each week by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee up to the NCAA Championship selections.
The field for the Southeast Region is comprised of the conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference, as well as the top five teams in the region rankings who aren't tournament champions.
C-N is one of four South Atlantic Conference schools listed – Coker, Lenoir-Rhyne and Lincoln Memorial are the others.
The PeachBelt is represented by Augusta, Columbus State and USC Aiken, while Conference Carolinas got the final two names in the hat in UNC Pembroke and Emmanuel.
Carson-Newman has the seventh-best RPI in the region. C-N has a .565 mark for that category, trailing sixth-place UNC Pembroke with a .577 tally. The Eagles have the 40th-best KPI in the nation, which equates to the sixth-highest in the region.
C-N's .527 strength of schedule is fifth-highest among the teams under consideration.
Carson-Newman takes on Emory & Henry Wednesday night in Holt Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. Pregame coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 7:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
