C-N ranked seventh in second region ranking

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – If the season ended today, Carson-Newman would be NCAA tournament bound.

Carson-Newman is ranked seventh in the second of three rounds of region rankings.

The rankings are the official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process and will continue to be released each week by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee up to the NCAA Championship selections.

The field for the Southeast Region is comprised of the conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference, as well as the top five teams in the region rankings who aren't tournament champions.

Carson-Newman is one of five South Atlantic Conference schools in the rankings. Wednesday night's foe Lincoln Memorial is the highest-ranked league team at second.  Lenoir-Rhyne follows in fourth.  C-N sits a spot in front of Coker in eighth, while UVA Wise has surged ahead to nine.

The field for the Southeast Region is comprised of the conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference, as well as the top five teams in the region rankings who aren't tournament champions.

The Peach Belt Conference has three teams ranked in Columbus State (first), USC Aiken (third) and Augusta (fifth).  Conference Carolinas is represented by UNC Pembroke (sixth) and Emmanuel (10th).

Carson-Newman's RPI is seventh-highest in the region.  That figure will receive a boost over the next two games with contests against regionally-ranked LMU and Coker ahead this week.

The Eagles have the sixth-best KPI in the region.

Carson-Newman takes on Lincoln Memorial Wednesday night inside Tex Turner Arena at 7:30 p.m.  Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 7:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
