VIDEO: Nick Brenegan postgame interview
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman junior shooting guard Nick Brenegan (Greenville, S.C.) has earned WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Brenegan is the second straight Eagle to win the award after Jack Browder (Kingsport, Tenn.) was honored after the first week of games.
It is the third player of the week honor for Brenegan for his career from the league and his sixth overall (two times as TSWA, once as national player of the week).
He helped Carson-Newman to a 2-0 week and a pair of 100-point performances in 100-72 and 105-101 wins over Johnson & Wales and Lenoir-Rhyne, respectively.
For the week, Brenegan averaged 21 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game with a filthy 68.2/58.3/71.4 slash line. The only negative was a career-long string of 28 straight made free throws coming to an end with a 5-for-7 day at the stripe against the Bears.
Brenegan started his week quietly with a 13-point five assist-day against JWU before exploding for 29 points against L-R. He was 10-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-7 from deep against the Bears for his 13th career 20-point performance.
Across the two games, Brenegan crested the 1,000-point mark for his career, becoming the Eagles' 41st all-time 1,000-point scorer.
Brenegan and the rest of the Eagles will be in action Wednesday night at 7:30 against Tusculum. Pregame coverage for the rivalry game with the Pioneers begins at 7:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
