Browder earns All-Region honors from D2CCA

ANDERSON, S.C. – For a second straight year, Carson-Newman has produced an all-region men's basketball player.

Junior forward Jack Browder (Kingsport, Tenn.) lands a spot on the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Second Team, the organization announced Friday afternoon.

Browder follows teammates John Zhao (Sevierville, Tenn.) who was a consensus all-region selection last season.  Browder nets the ninth all-region honor for head coach Chuck Benson, joining Zhao, Charles Clark (three times), Antoine Davis (twice), Ish Sanders and Carson Brooks as Eagles to have earned all-region honors under Benson's guidance.

Browder leads C-N with 19.7 points per game.  He also averages a team-best 8.8 rebounds per game. He has produced 30 double-digit scoring efforts this season, including 15, 20-point efforts. He leads the conference with 13 double-double games this season.

A four-time SAC Player of the Week honoree, Browder was named NABC National Player of the Week on Dec. 10.

The junior turned in back-to-back 30-point games, and is the first Eagle this century to score 30 points in three straight games.

He has scored 99 points in a three-game stretch – the fifth time this century a player has scored more than 90 in a three-game span for C-N. Browder's 99 are second only to Charles Clark's 110 during the stretch where he had his 54-point triple-double and earned his second national player of the week award.

For the week, Browder averaged 33 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks per game.  He made 75 percent of his shots, 88.9 percent of his threes and all 16 of his free throws.

He started his week with a career-night in an 87-81 loss to UVA Wise.  He scored 36 points and grabbed 16 boards – both career days.  The 16 rebounds are the tied for the seventh-most in school history and the third-most in the NCAA Division II era.

Browder followed that up with 30 points in Saturday's 98-89 win over Limestone.  Browder connected on all four of his threes against the Cavaliers before going 4-of-5 from deep against Limestone.

Browder will be on display in the NCAA tournament Saturday.  Tipoff between the Eagles and Cougars is slated for 5 p.m. Saturday. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 4:45 p.m. with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff online at cneagles.com/live. Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) will pickup the game in progress following C-N women's basketball's second round game if they win their opening round game Friday against Anderson.
