Carson-Newman holds steady in seventh in region rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – Carson-Newman stayed put in seventh in the final batch of region rankings released by the NCAA Wednesday afternoon.

The rankings are the official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process and will continue to be released each week by the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee up to the NCAA Championship selections.

The field for the Southeast Region is comprised of the conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference, as well as the top five teams in the region rankings who aren't tournament champions. 

Carson-Newman is one of six South Atlantic Conference schools in the rankings.

LMU is second and Lenoir-Rhyne fourth.  The Eagles lead a pack of four schools from the league that occupy the final four spots in the rankings.  Coker sits in eighth, although the Cobras lost to Catawba in the SAC quarterfinals Wednesday, a result not yet accounted for in the region rankings.

Catawba is ninth and UVA Wise, whom C-N defeated 104-95 in the SAC quarterfinals, sits in 10th

The Peach Belt has three schools in the rankings, led by Columbus State atop the table.  USC Aiken is third, while Augusta sits in fifth. 

Conference Carolinas has one representative – UNC Pembroke in sixth.
