CARROLLTON, Ga. – Carson-Newman's Morgan Grunenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.) and Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) each had a second half goal as the Lady Eagles rallied to beat West Georgia University, 2-1, on Friday night in Carrollton, Ga.
C-N scored twice in a seven-minute span in the second half move to 2-2 on the season. West Georgia falls to 2-3.
Gruenenfelder's score in the 66th minute off a Howell feed gave the Lady Eagles their first lead and the win.
"Everything just clicked for us," C-N head coach Carol Bonnes said after the win. "This one was more about character and leadership than anything. I couldn't be happier with this team tonight."
C-N matched UWG's first half goal in the 59th minute when Howell
score past the feet of Wolves keeper Mary Laza to tie the game at
1-1, as the Lady Eagles began to seize momentum.
Both teams had 13 shots in the game. C-N keeper Kyline Humm
(Crystal Lake, Ill.) had seven saves.
The Lady Eagles return to action in southern Georgia on Sunday
afternoon against Columbus State (Ga.). Kickoff is at 1:30 p.m. in
the Hughston Sports Clinic Shootout.
