Lady Eagles Open the Season at No. 5 in NSCAA Poll

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Carson-Newman women's soccer team is ranked No. 5 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Preseason Poll.

The Lady Eagles are the lone South Atlantic Conference team listed in the rankings.

C-N is coming off a very successful run in 2009. The Lady Eagles won a school-record 20 matches (20-3-1), claimed both the SAC regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

Grand Valley State, the defending national champion, sits atop the poll, while national semifinalist West Florida is ranked second. Saint Rose (N.Y.) is No. 3, followed by national runner up Cal State Dominguez Hills at No. 4.

Columbus State, a team the Lady Eagles will play on Sept. 19, is ranked No. 12.

C-N opens its season on Friday against Pfeiffer in the Queens Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
