Lady Eagles Shut Out Mars Hill, 2-0, for Sixth Straight Victory

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman women's soccer team defeated Mars Hill 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at McCown Field.

With the win, the Lady Eagles push their winning streak to six matches and improve to 9-6-0 overall and 6-1-0 in the conference. C-N also moved into a tie atop the SAC standings. Mars Hill falls to 8-5-2 on the season and 2-4-2 in SAC play.

C-N controlled possession for most of the match and held a 21-10 advantage in shots, including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal.

Freshman Bianca Hall (Newcastle, England) put the Lady Eagles on the board just before the half as she finished off a pass from Morgan Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.) in the 38th minute to give C-N a 1-nil lead heading into the locker room.

The Lady Eagles added to their lead in the 61st minute when sophomore Andrea Saevik (Froystadvaag, Norway) headed in a free kick from Melissa Morris (Sweetwater, Tenn.).

C-N goalkeeper Sarah Tompkins (Franklin, Wis.) collected six saves in picking up the shutout, while Mars Hill's Chelsea Parker (Richmond, Va.) tallied 10 saves in the loss.

C-N returns to the pitch on Wednesday in a SAC matchup at Tusculum. Match time is set for 7 p.m. Mars Hill will play at Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
