Hickory, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles dropped their first South Atlantic Conference match of the season in a 2-1 loss at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday evening at the Moretz Sports – Athletic Complex.
Junior midfielder Catherine Hauck (Lake Mary, Fla.) finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Bears, who held a 34-6 advantage in shots taken over the Eagles.After a scoreless first half, Hauck put the Bears on the board with a successful penalty kick just 1:23 into the second stanza. Hauck also assisted on L-R's second goal when freshman defender Jessica Schob (Ione, Calif.) finished in the box in the 51st minute.
Carson-Newman cut the lead in half when Andrea Saevik
(Froystadvaag, NORWAY) scored off a long kick from right side at
the 58:34 mark but the Bears were able to hold on for the
victory.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Ingram (Buford, Ga.) allowed
just one goal while stopping three shots for Lenoir-Rhyne, who has
won seven of its first eight matches for the second straight
season.
Carson-Newman's Sarah Thompkins (Franklin, Wisc.) suffered the loss in goal despite racking up 15 saves.
Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Brevard in South Atlantic Conference match on Wednesday beginning at 7 p.m.
Carson-Newman, meanwhile, faces Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday in Harrogate, Tenn., at 4 p.m.
