JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman women's soccer team fell to No. 24 Belmont Abbey, 2-0, in its home opener on Sunday afternoon at McCown Field.
With the loss, the Lady Eagles drop to 1-2 on the season. Belmont Abbey improves to 6-0.
The Lady Eagles and Crusaders finished with nine shots apiece with C-N holding a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Belmont Abbey scored both of its goals off set pieces late in the first half. Kristin Voirin (Winter Springs, Fla.) headed in a corner kick from Kristin Foster (Davidson, N.C.) in the 30th minute to give the Crusaders a 1-nil advantage.
Five minutes later, Nicole Voets (Chatsworth, Calif.) finished off a corner kick from Alana Ryczek (Huntersville, N.C.) with a header for the final goal of the afternoon.
Belmont Abbey goalkeeper Anna Donaldson (Neptune Beach, Fla.) picked up the shutout after recording six saves.
C-N keeper Sarah Tompkins (Franklin, Wis.) finished with two saves in the loss.
The Lady Eagles return to the pitch on Friday at West Georgia. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
