Carson-Newman Women's Soccer Falls at No. 4 Columbus State, 6-1

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Carson-Newman women's soccer team fell to fourth-ranked Columbus State, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon in the Hughston Sports Clinic Shootout at Walden Soccer Complex.

With the loss, the Lady Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season, while Columbus State improves to 6-0.

Stephanie Lowery recorded a hat trick to lead the Lady Cougars to the win. Lowery tallied two goals in the first half to help Columbus State build a 4-nil lead and added a third goal in the 58th minute in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Stephanie Parrish, Emily Husted and Sarah Rogers also recorded goals for the Lady Cougars.

Junior forward Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) scored C-N's lone goal in the 67th minute off a cross from Morgan Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.).

Columbus State held a 15-6 edge in shots, including a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.

C-N returns to the pitch on Wednesday at Lee. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
