Tusculum Ends Lady Eagles' Eight-Game Win Streak with Golden Goal in SAC Tournament, 1-0

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Tusculum College forward Tramicka James (Wilson, N.C.) goal in the 94th minute broke a scoreless tie and propelled the seventh-seeded Pioneers past No. 2 seed Carson-Newman, 1-0, on Tuesday evening in the first round of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament.

Tusculum advances to face the winner of No. 3 Wingate and No. 6 Catawba on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex in Rock Hill, S.C. The Pioneers improve to 9-8 on the year, while C-N, the SAC regular season co-champion, falls to 11-6 and sees its eight-game winning streak come to an end.

James was able to capitalize on one of the few scoring opportunities of the night in the early minutes of overtime. The sophomore broke free to chase down a through ball on the right side of the box, and would finish over top the head of C-N keeper Sarah Tompkins (Franklin, Wisc.) for her 17th goal of the season.

James led the game with five shots for the Pioneers, who out shot C-N, 13-10. The two teams had only two shots apiece in the first half.

C-N's Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) led the Lady Eagles with five shots. She had C-N's best scoring chance of the night. Early in the second half, Howell caught TC keeper Rachael Jennings out of position on a free ball in the left side of the box, but her shot trickled just left of the near post.

C-N played without All-American Morgan Gruenenfelder (Sweetwater, Tenn.), who suffered a knee injury in the final game of the regular season.
