JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman's Blue team takes home the win in the Blue v. Orange World Championships on Friday, making the series record 4-3.
Blue ahead 283-250 after the seventh annual Blue v. Orange World Championships. It was a competitive meet according to Head Coach of the swim team Ben Young.
"It was an extremely close meet that went back and forth several times," Young said.
A few standout performances from the Eagles included Rachel Peden placing first in the Women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.66. Manon Compagner also took home first in the Women's 100-yard butterfly (56.49) and 50-yard freestyle (24.25).
"We had some big swims coming from Rachel in the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM. Compagner squeezed out a victory in the 50-yard freestyle and was looking really smooth in her 100-yard butterfly for the win," Young said.
For the men, Alonso Castro placed first in 500-yard freestyle at 4:49.60, and Laurits Kenskov took first in the 100-yard butterfly at 50.94. "We had a big showing from Alonso Castro at the meet as well as a great swim from Kenskov in the 100-yard butterfly today," Young said.
This was the Eagles last meet before heading into conference next week.
"Our message was to get up and be excited to have a full pool deck again and piece together solid races, while understanding where we are in the season," Young said.
The Eagles plan to continue improving throughout the season as they head to Emory & Henry next week.
"Tonight definitely showed us that we have a lot to work on, but that comes with time and our goal is to continue exposing those weaknesses through our meets and practices so that by the time midseason roles around, we re ready to piece it all together. We just have to be willing to grind because that is what we have done for the past five weeks," Young said.
Young was thankful for the support from the fans as Maddox Pool was decorated to cheer on the Blue and Orange teams on Friday. "The stands were full which was nice to see. I'm always thankful for the support that our families and community shows us year after year," Young said.
The Eagles head to Emory, Va. to face off against Emory & Henry on Sept. 30 at 3:00 p.m.
